GovGuam workers return to work; safeguards in place

The Government of Guam reopened for business today, with all employees being called back to their offices.

Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero announced last week that while GovGuam workers are required back at work, those who can telework are still being encouraged to do so.

Edward Birn, the Department of Administration director, says each agency has put in measures to protect all returning staff.

“We’ve had to make sure that we can have people sufficiently far enough from each other to maintain social distancing requirements and everybody is obviously still wearing masks. In addition, for those agencies and again, DOA is one of them, that have contact with the general public or with people coming into the agency, a lot of prospects have been put up and people are now behind screens to obviously help prevent the spread of the virus,” Birn said.

As of today, differential pay will end for category 3 employees, which are those workers who’ve faced minimal exposure to the risk of COVID-19.

However, differential pay will continue for frontline public safety and health care workers and those dealing directly with the public.
