Guam – The Guam Power Authority will begin rolling out its new smart grid meters in October.
GPA allowed the media to preview the meters at an undisclosed warehouse location this morning.
The advanced digital meters have the ability to provide GPA customers detailed consumption information through an online feature that will launch at the completion of the smart grid project.
5,000 meters are ready to be installed in some central and northern villages on Guam. Residents will receive a post card from GPA prior to the installation of the new meters. GPA Spokesman Art Perez says it will take 15 to 18 months to complete installations throughout the island.
Residents with critical medical equipment plugged in should call the number on the back of the postcard they receive to set up a time for the installation so that it will not interfere with their care.
