Guam – The Guam Power Authority has announced that “problems” with MEC 8 caused brief power outages across a wide area of the island from Agana Springs to Yigo.

GPA says states that at about 2:40pm the Marianas Energy base load generator #8 reduced output of power to its circuits, its not yet clear why.

Spokesman Art Perez emphasized that the unit did not trip offline.  “It suddenly reduced load so GPA dispatchers had to shut off power to circuits,” he said.

But as a result of that reduced output, brief power outages occurred in the following areas:

1.       Parts of Agana from Agana Springs, Afame, Ordot, Maimai Road, Chalan Pago Intersection;
2.       Harmon to Gun Beach and Tarza Water Park;
3.       Pulantat, Yona;
4.       Tamuning along Chalan San Antonio, GPO, Cost U Less and Espiritu Street;
5.       Tamuning by Atkins Kroll, Dennys, Ypao Road, Century 21 Bldg.
6.       Pagat, Mangilao;
7.       Parts of Barrigada;
8.       Yigo from North on Route 1 to Potts Junction to include Mataguac areas;
9.       Tamuning from Post Office to Fire Station, Bank of Hawaii, Alupang Beach Hotel to Citibank Intersection
