Guam – GPA is asking commercial customers to convey caution when paying their bills because of another incident of fraudulent representatives calling for power payments.

GPA spokesman Art Perez says he has forwarded information about a possible fraud scheme to the fusion center at Guam homeland security. Perez tells PNC two commercial customers told GPA about individuals claiming to be GPA representatives asking for power payments over the phone via an 800 number. As company policy, GPA does not allow commercial customers to make credit card payments over the phone. This is the second time this year that people claiming to be GPA representatives have attempted to solicit payments. So far no payments were made to the fraudulent callers and Perez says that GPA is not aware of any such scheme affecting residential customers.

“Don’t offer any information, there’s usually some checks and balances also Tim, verify the account. Payments like that you come in the next day and make payments, and we won’t demand payments right on the spot. And we never collect cash on the field. That’s just not done in GPA,” said Perez.
