GPD: 2 Women Accused of Attempting to “Rob a Tourist for Gas Money”

Guam – Guam Police have arrested 2 women following what they say was an attempted purse snatching last night in front of the Hilton in Tumon.

36 year old Renee Soriano Munoz of Dededo, and 46 year old Cynthia Taimanglo Meno of Yigo have both been booked and confined on assault and robbery accusations.

In a texted message to the media, GPD Spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia said that the pair are accused of “attempting to rob (purse snatching) a tourist for gas money”.

In an emailed release, Officer Balajadia said officers responded to the attempted purse snatching just before 7pm last night at the entrance to the Hilton Hotel in Tumon.

The suspect fled in a vehicle described as a silver 2004 Toyota Matrix. Witnesses also managed to get the license plate and GPD issued an “All Points Bulletin” for the car.

Hagatna Precinct spotted the suspect vehicle heading south on Marine Corps Drive by the Alupang Beach Tower. The vehicle turned off of Route 4 into the Paseo Park where GPD pulled it over and arrested the 2 suspects.

Officer Balajadia says the victim “positively identified Munoz as the main suspect responsible for attempting to commit the Robbery on her.”

Balajadia also says that Munoz was observed to have sustained “visible injuries as a result of the victim fighting her off during the commission of the crime.

TUMON – Tuesday, April 30, 2014, 6:50 p.m. officers responded to a reported “Attempted Purse Snatching” at the entrance way of Hilton hotel in Tumon.  An all Points Bulletin (APB) of the suspect and suspects vehicle was aired over the police radio.

Being operated by the suspect described as:

Female/Possibly Local/ Dark Complexion/ Wearing Shorts and Pink or Blue Top

At about 7:13 p.m. officers with the Hagatna Precinct spotted the suspect vehicle heading south on Marine Corps Drive by the Alupang Beach Tower. The suspect vehicle subsequently turned off of Route 4 into the Paseo Park where both suspects were then apprehended without further incident and were later identified as:

DRIVER OF SUSPECT VEHICLE: RENEE SORIANO MUNOZ, F/GUA/DOB: 07/29/77

FRONT PASSENGER OF SUSPECT VEHICLE: CYNTHIA TAIMANGLO MENO, F/GUA/DOB: 01/24/68

The victim in this case positively identified MUNOZ as the main suspect responsible for attempting to commit the Robbery on her.  MUNOZ was further noted to have sustain visible injuries as a result of the victim fighting her off during the commission of the attempted robbery.

RENEE SORIANO MUNOZ was arrested for, 3RD DEGREE ROBBERY (ATTEMPT), ASSAULT, AND CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT ROBBERY

CYNTHIA TAIMANGLO MENO was arrested for, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT ROBBERY, GUILT ESTABLISHED BY COMPLICITY AND CRIMINAL FACILITATION

MUNOZ and MENO were booked and confined.
