Guam Police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash on Route 1, Marine Corps Drive, by Micronesia Mall that happened just after 4 am Friday.

GPD Highway Patrol Division personnel were on the scene of the crash in Dededo.

GPD spokesman Sgt. Paul Tapao says their preliminary reports suggest that a gray pickup was traveling northbound in the middle lane on Route 1, Marine Corps Drive, by the Micronesia Mall when the vehicle hit a male pedestrian.

The operator of the pickup fled the scene and was later located by police in the Yigo area.

As a result of the crash, the male pedestrian was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased by attending physicians.

Police have not released the man’s age or identity.

Traffic was affected at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 16, with all traffic traveling northbound from Rt 16 onto Rt 1 diverted onto Fatima Road.

Police say the case is ongoing.
