Guam – In Superior Court today [Thursday] Guam Police Officer Steven Toposna will serve 10 days in jail after he was convicted on a misdemeanor assault charge.
He was actually sentenced to the maximum term of one-year but all but 10 days of that time was suspended. He has not served any of the 10 days yet and Defense Counsel and the AG have been ordered to workout the details of when he should serve that time given his position as a Police Officer.
Officer Topasna was also ordered to pay a $1,000 dollar fine plus court costs and he remains liable for full restitution to the victim.
Court Spokeswoman Maria Cenzon also says that Officer Topsana will be allowed to carry his firearm only if he is accompanied by another officer. He will not be permitted to carry a firearm if he is on duty alone.
Officer Topsana must also serve 2 years of probation and stay away from victim and family members and perform 200 hour of community service within 2 years and report to the Department of Mental Health for an assessment.
