GPD: Records & I.D. Section Remains Closed

Guam – The Guam Police Department’s Records and I.D. Section will remain closed today [Wednesday].

GPD Public Information Officer A.J. Balajadia told PNC News this morning that the power has been restored to the Administrative building in Tiyan where the Records & I.D. Section is located. But yesterday’s electrical short caused some problems with the computer system and technicians are still working to restore that system, so for the second day in a row the Records and I.D. Section will be closed..

Officer Balajadia said that the Records and I.D. Section will be closed all day as a result. He could not say when it would re-open.

The Administrative Building was forced to close Tuesday after an underground cable shorted-out and caused a strong smell of burning rubber inside the building.

Guam Fire and Guam Power were called in to investigate.

Guam Power Spokesman Art Perez said that GPA crews changed out the under ground cable leading to the building which he said  “looked like it had been installed when the facility was first built.” That was more than 40 years ago.

Guam Fire Spokesman Joey San Nicolas says that inspectors checked out the building and determined that there was “no immediate danger of fire.”

Again, power has been restored to the building but the computer system is down in the Records and I.D. Section and that will remain closed until further notice.
