With the holidays coming up within the next few weeks, local law enforcement is encouraging the public to stay safe as they celebrate.

With Christmas and New Year’s happening soon, there are a lot of reasons to throw a party. With these upcoming festivities in mind, the Guam Police Department would like to remind the public to stay safe and have a designated driver no matter how they choose to celebrate.

Sgt. Paul Tapao, GPD spokesman, said: “Guam has marked the 16th traffic fatality. We continue to work with the community to reduce the number of fatal crashes in our roadways. One thing is to give the gift of life by designating a responsible, sober driver should we choose to celebrate this holiday season.”

Motorists can expect delays as others try to get their gifts for Christmas. In addition, GPD will have DUI checkpoints posted throughout the island over the next few weeks.
