Three Tiyan High School students were taken into custody by Guam police Tuesday after a viral video surfaced of the beating of a fourth student at a bus stop last Friday.

It happened on West Nanez Street in Dededo.  A 17-year-old and two 15-year-olds have been arrested.

The 15-year-olds were charged with aggravated assault. The 17-year-old is facing allegations of use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, as well as assault.

All three have been confined to the Department of Youth Affairs.

The condition of the injured student has not been released.

The viral video of the beating shows three students throwing punches at a student who falls to the ground and tries to cover up to protect himself. The three attackers are then seen kicking and punching the fallen student repeatedly.

One student is then seen pulling an object from his pocket and thrusting it down towards the student lying on the ground.  It’s not clear what the object was.

A female student finally intervenes and asks him to stop.

Guam Department of Education spokeswoman Isa Baza said Guam DOE became aware of the incident last Friday when a video of medics attending to the injured student first surfaced.

She said Tiyan High School administrators then began their investigation into the incident over the weekend.

Then a second video depicting the student being beaten surfaced. Baza said Guam DOE only became aware of it Tuesday. This second video helped school authorities identify the three students.

“The school is completing its investigation and will administer appropriate disciplinary action,” said Baza.  The students involved could face expulsion. “GPD will handle all criminal matters going forward,” she said.

Re: 3 Minors Taken Into Custody for Assault

Officers take three (3) minors into custody for assault on another student.

Preliminary police reports suggest that on Monday March 3, officers from the Central Precinct Command met with Tiyan High School administrators relative to an assault complaint that occurred on Friday February 28, in West Nandez St, Dededo.

From Guam DOE spokeswoman Isa Baza:

“We became aware of a video circulating that depicted an injured Tiyan High School student on Friday afternoon.

Tiyan High School administrators began their investigation into this incident over the weekend. However, earlier today, Tiyan High School and central office administrators became aware of the circulation of a fight video related to Friday’s incident.

This new video assisted school officials in identifying students who were involved. School officials called GPD for assistance to ensure the safety of the school.
