Guam – Guam Police have arrested a 31 year old woman after she allegedly abandoned her 1 year old nephew on the side of the road in Dededo.

Mariana Cholymay of Dededo was arrested for Family Violence and Child Abuse.  She was booked and released.

GPD Spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia says a passing motorist saw the baby boy lying on the side of YSengsong Road and Chalan Natibu in Dededo.

The child had “no footwear” and “was just wearing a diaper,” says Officer Balajadia.

GPD Officers responded and found the baby. The Officers looked around for the child’s parents but could not find them. About an hour later Dededo Precinct DeskWatch got a call from a woman, later identified as Cholymay, who reported a missing child.

Cholymay was asked to come to the Precinct to be interviewed and she reportedly told police that she was “supposed to be watching her nephew while the child’s mother was at work.”

“This story could have had a tragic ending,” said Officer Balajadia, adding that GPD “would like to thank the citizen who stopped and contacted the Police Department.”
