Tamuning, Guam – (May 19) – The Guam Regional Medical City, Where Patients Are Partners, is proud to announce that 50 middle and high school students have submitted entries in its essay contest: “Finishing the fight against cancer starts with me.”
There are 50 entries total: 30 from the middle school division and 20 from the high schools, all from throughout the island. Between now and the Relay for Life event on May 23, staff and volunteers with the American Cancer Society Guam Field Office will be judging the entries. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, writing style and adherence to the theme.
“We are very happy with the level of participation. Our goal was to raise the awareness of young people on topics related to cancer, especially the importance of early detection, screening, and activities leading to prevention,” GRMC’s COO Gloria Long said.
Three middle school and three high school winners will each receive a cash prize ranging from $200 to $800. The winners will be announced at the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life on May 23.
“This has been a great partnership with Guam Regional Medical City and we remind our community that finishing the fight against cancer starts with ourselves. We invite the entire community to join us at Relay For Life in a show of force that Guam is finishing the fight against cancer,” says Theresa Obispo, American Cancer Society Advisory Board President
