After some delays, Japanese retail giant Don Quijote finally broke ground this afternoon on its Don Don Donki store in Tamuning.
When complete it will be the largest Don Don Donki store in the world.
With their sights set on Tamuning, the Don Quijote company will open its largest Don Don Donki store ever. And the target demographic for the company is local residents, not Japanese tourists.
The founder of Don Quijote, Takao Yasuda, spoke to the crowd and specified that the location of the new store was decided due to its close proximity to the airport, and Tumon. Being on Marine Corps drive was also a plus.
Don Don Donki Don Quijote is a discount retailer offering Japanese-made food and consumer products.
The company aims to offer a one-stop shopping experience where local residents can buy all the consumer products they need without having to go anywhere else.
Don Quijote has many Don Don Donki stores throughout Japan as well as in Singapore, California, and Hawaii.
The company is planning to hire at least 200 full-time and part-time employees for the Guam store, and the estimated completion is September 2021.
