Guahan Academy fails to turn in documents that could save them from eviction

Guam – An eviction for Guahan Academy Charter School is imminent as the school’s administrators received word that the Guam Department of Education will not be able to save them with an infusion of cash.

GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez says GDOE and GACS officials met this morning to discuss the payment of $350,000 to GACS which could prevent the charter school’s closure.

The issue stems from a notice GACS received from their landlord, warning them that they will be evicted this Wednesday for non-payment. The eviction notice was sent from Attorney Daniel Berman’s office which represents Nan Chul Shin Trust, the owners of the property being leased by Guahan Academy. GACS is behind in payments by nearly $250,000.

Fernandez says that at today’s meeting, GACS was unable to provide GDOE with a procurement record of the Shin Trust land purchase and therefore GDOE could not validate the charter school’s January 2018 request for $350,000.
