Guahan Academy Requests to Rezone Barrigada Land for New Campus

Guam – The Guahan Academy Charter School is asking the Legislature to rezone land in Barrigada to be used for their new campus.

GACS officials and representatives attended the public hearing and showed their support for Bill 322, which was introduced by Senator Tom Ada. The bill would rezone 15 1/2 acres of land in Barrigada from Agricultural Zone to School Zone. According to GACS Chief Executive Officer Vince Leon Guerrero, since the academy’s lease for their temporary campus at Tiyan expires in June 2016 and because of an anticipated increase in student enrollment, GACS submitted applications for Federal grants for the construction of a permanent and larger campus.

GACS CEO Vince Leon Guerrero says, “It shouldn’t surprise anyone that I’m here to testify in support of Bill 322. We thank you and Senator Nerissa Underwood staff for meeting our board and for providing us with information and guidance that led us to the development of Bill 222-33.”
