Guam – Andrea Odell had a good outing today, scoring four goals in two different divisions of the Cars Plus Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League at the Guam Football Association field in Harmon.
Odell powered in two goals in the Guahan Explosions’ 3-2 victory over the ASC Islanders in the Girls’ U17 division and next suited up for Wings Black, scoring two out of the team’s six goals against the previously undefeated Wolverines in the U16 division. With the shutout win, Wings Black takes sole possession of first place with an unblemished 6-0 record going into the final two weeks of the league.
Team captain Edwin Wong struck first for Wings Black in the first half, taking the ball into the goal with him for the 1-0 advantage. Moments later, Wings Black found themselves up 2-0 when the Wolverines accidentally knocked in an own goal on a header from a Wings Black corner kick.
With the two-goal deficit, the Wolverines began to pick up the intensity in game in desperation to score a goal to keep up with their opponents. Although the Wolverines defense was able to shut down Wings Black for the rest of the half, the team lost Keith Surber, one of its key members, when he received his second yellow card in the game. The second infraction resulted in Surber’s departure from the game with a red card and suspension for the team’s next match.
From that point, the Wolverines were unable to dismantle the Wings Black passing game. Minutes into the second half, Justin Johnson headed in a pass from teammate Keigo Kitadate to break the scoring ice in the half. Later, it would be Kitadate to break through the Wolverines defense, taking a pass from Joseph Cho and knocking in a goal from the right side. Odell made it a 5-0 game when she blasted a shot from the middle and then added a sixth goal off an assist from Kitadate. Kitadate quickly turned a pass from Cho to Odell to finish the goal.
