Guam’s Christians to Mark Good Friday as Easter Approaches

Guam- In preparation for Easter, Guam’s Christian community will be conducting numerous activities for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

Father Danny Ferrandiz says the Archdiocese of Agana and other churches are preparing for the stations of the cross, the proclamation of the last 7 words of Jesus and the liturgy of the veneration of the cross. However, the main activities actually start this evening with the re-enactment of the last supper. Father Danny says this is a great time for people to really feel how Jesus Christ suffered for everyone.

“These days are the most important days of holy week because it’s more on the historical aspect of the faith that people should really remember…because remembering, we don’t only remember the past but we actually make the past present by trying to live and remember the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus” said Ferrandiz

Hundreds of Catholics will also be hiking up Mount Jumullong Manglo in Umatac early Friday morning. This holy trek symbolizes how Jesus Christ suffered as he carried the cross he was crucified on over 2 thousand years ago.
