The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) has officially ratified the Interscholastic Sports Association (ISA) constitution and bylaws.
On Friday, December 13, GDOE high school principals signed and ratified the new ISA constitution and bylaws at a meeting held at the GDOE Tiyan headquarters first-floor gallery. The constitution and bylaws were then ratified by the Superintendent of Education, which was the final step in the ratification process.
The ratification took place after stakeholder and public input had been provided to the ISA Board of Control over the past few weeks. Changes to the ISA constitution and bylaws reflected input provided by the public and efforts to ensure a smooth transition into ISA third and fourth quarter sports.
“Now that our constitution and bylaws are fully ratified, we can move forward with a sound understanding of the rules and regulations that will govern the operating of our high school sports program,” GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez said. “We are excited that this critical step has been completed and look forward to the third quarter sports season.”
“We also plan to hold a second review of the ISA constitution and bylaws over the summer, in order to take into account any issues or feedback that may surface over the first few months of the sports transition,” Acting Sports Program Coordinator Al Garrido said.
The ratified ISA constitution and bylaws are available on the GDOE website.
The ISA league will officially launch this week Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the GDOE Tiyan headquarters, where the league logo will be revealed and presented to participating schools.
