Guam – The Guam Department of Labor awarded a $45 thousand dollar contract to Market Research and Development inc. to conduct a study of the impacts of raising the minimum wage.
Market Research and Development inc. will conduct the Economic impact study together with the University of Guam. Their task is to study the most recent increase to the minimum wage, something the Guam Department of labor was supposed to have completed in April. GDOL now anticipates completion of the Economic Impact Statement within 90 days. GDOL is also asking for a recommended approach to evaluate the impact of the law on a continuous basis for future mandated wage increases. GDOL director Sam Mabini is quoted as saying that “We must always look at ways to improve the quality of life for our residents but we have to understand that could affect the employers who are paying for these increases.”
