Guam FESTPAC Delegates Named at Pulan Festival at Sagan Kotturan Chamoru Cultural Center in Oka Point


This is the 8th annual Gupot Fanha’aniyan Pulan Chamoru or Chamoru Lunar Festival.

Guam – The Sagan Kotturan Chamoru cultural center at the Oka point in Tumon held the annual Pulan or lunar festival this Saturday.


 The festival which features various Chamoru arts, crafts and food is also the annual launch of the lunar calendar which is based on the traditional Chamoru lunar calendar. During the lunar festival the Guam delegation for the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts was announced. Guam has a 500 member delegation made up of 414 Council of the Arts and Humanities recognized master artisans and local residents. The delegation also includes 86 members of Chamoru’s living in the mainland U.S. the Guam delegation will represent 24 disciplines under traditional arts, literary arts, performing arts and visual arts categories. The FESTPAC will bring 27 island nations and 3,000 people from throughout the Pacific to Guam in May. FESTPAC is often referred to as the olympics of the Pacific arts because it is only held once every four years in different countries each festival. FESTPAC was conceived by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community to stop the erosion of traditional practices.
