Guam- The Guam Fishermen’s Cooperative Association is busy preparing for the 3rd Annual Chamorro Lunar Calendar Festival on Sunday.
President Manny Duenas says the festival will be held at the co-op grounds right next to Chamorro village in Hagatna. Duenas says the event gets bigger and bigger each year, with over 60 different groups and vendors expected to be present. While entertainment and arts and crafts will be shared, he also explains why the festival is important to the fishing community.
“It’s a day where the fishing community will share with the public information we’ve known for thousands of years on how the lunar phases affect us and how we work with the lunar phases to harvest the resources of the ocean” said Duenas. “It’s a fun filled event. It’s a fair. It’s a festival. It’s a whole lot of things going on at one time. We have entertainment. We have arts and crafts people that are going to show off their works. And people from the community from all over are invited to come down and visit us and share the culture of Guam, the beauty of Guam.”
The lunar festival will be from 10 am to 7 pm on Sunday, January 30.
