Guam – The island’s youth can avoid mid-summer blues by enrolling in Guam Football Association’s “Soccer in the Sun” summer camp, with two weeklong sessions beginning June 25.

The weeklong camp will include soccer instruction mainly by the Matao, the Guam men’s national soccer team and staff, many of whom also are licensed coaches. In addition to soccer instruction, the attendees will participate in a variety of games and other activities from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. GFA also will be providing a light lunch for the camp attendees daily during each session. The first session begins the week of June 25 and the second session begins the week of July 2.

“The soccer camp is a fun opportunity for kids to continue practicing the sport during the summer and also for those kids interested in trying soccer for the first time,” said Joshua Borja, camp organizer and GFA Football in the Community manager.  “Although the main goal is for the kids to have fun while playing the sport, they will also gain technical skills and learn concepts in the sessions facilitated by licensed coaches.”

All youth are welcome to join the camp, which will have a dedicated coach for five age levels – U6, U8, U10, U12 and U14. The cost per session is $149 per child. All sessions will be held at the GFA training facility in Harmon. In addition to the camp activities and light lunch, participants will receive a camp T-shirt. Registration forms are available at the GFA Main Office and also online for download on the www.guamfootball.com Web site.

“The camp also is a great way for kids to interact with their peers during the summer and to get them back into soccer mode before the upcoming Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League in the fall,” Borja added.
