The Republican Party of Guam issued a news release this morning saying they stand “committed with our fellow Americans across the United States and globally to ensure that police brutality like that inflicted upon and eventually causing the death of George Floyd is never tolerated again, including here on Guam.”

Juan Carlos Benítez, the National Committeeman of the Republican Party of Guam is quoted in the release as saying – “In no part of the United States is it ever acceptable for a police officer to place their knee on the throat of another human being or injure them to the point of their demise. Not in a State. Not in a Territory. Not in any jurisdiction in the entire world!”,

Benitez cited the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police last week which has spark demonstrations nationwide and here on Guam.

He called that event “completely unacceptable and should never be allowed to ever happen again.”

Republican Party Chairman Tony Ada is also quoted in the release. He issued a challenge to Governor Lou Leon Guerrero as well as the Guam Police Department leadership “to commit to purge from their ranks anyone who finds this type of behavior acceptable; be it against African-Americans, Caucasians, Micronesians, Palauans, Marshallese, Filipinos, Asians or any other nationality, race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.”
