Guam- 8 centenarians were honored today at St. Dominic’s Senior Care Home in Barrigada Heights.
The Department of Public Health’s Division of Senior Citizens says this was the largest amount of people that were found to have lived to be 100 years or older. Sister Emelita Cinco says 3 centenarians were able to make the ceremony. However, one passed away prior to the event. Anuncia Reyes Salas lived to be 101 years old and died at the end of March.
While the ceremony was filled with numerous awards and presenters, Sister Cinco says the important lesson to take away is how these centenarians lived their lives.
“Must have been they have lived a good and peaceful life” said Cinco. “That is a contributing factor to live long. No complaints. No problems…and staying healthy and eating healthy foods.”
The Centenarian Recognition Celebration is part of the activities for senior citizens month. The event was hosted by the Division of Senior Citizens, St. Dominic’s, the Mayors Council and numerous other sponsors.
