2000 OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST NAOKO TAKAHASHI TO RETURN AS GIM AMBASSADOR
(Tumon, Guam) – Friday, July 31, 2015 – The Guam Visitors Bureau, along with Pacific Islands Club Guam and United Airlines announced the opening of registration and some exciting changes in store for the 2016 Guam International Marathon. The fourth annual Guam International Marathon is organized by Guam Sports Events and will take place on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Event organizers will again welcome 2000 Sydney Games Olympic gold medalist, Naoko Takahashi as event Ambassador and look forward to announcing additional features and added value for 2016 GIM race participants.
The 3rd Annual Guam International Marathon welcomed over 3,200 runners across the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K events and the 2016 event anticipates a growth in both local and international participation. The fourth annual event will culminate with the GIM Finish Line and Finisher’s Festival capitalizing on the beauty of Ypao Beach and scenic Tumon bay. The expanded post-race Finisher’s Festival will begin at 6:30am and will feature numerous food and beverage concessions, cultural activities and live entertainment.
This Guam International Marathon event includes 5K, 10K, Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and Marathon (26.2 miles) race distances. All courses have been officially certified by the IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federations) and AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). This designation means that marathon runners may use this as a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.
