Guam Nurses Association will have a health and fitness day on May 14. The community is invited to attend.
Guam – It’s gonna be a busy month for the Guam Nurses Association. May is Nurses month and the GNA has a ton of events lined up to celebrate all nurses on Guam.
GNA President Rose Grino says they will kick off with a proclamation signing this Friday, followed by mass on Sunday. They will also have their annual nursing conference, a community event fitness day and they will cap off the celebration with a banquet and awards night at the end of the month.
GNA Executive Director Glynis Almonte says they are still accepting nominations for the awards until April 29. Grino and Almonte say GNA is active within the Guam community, often collaborating with other healthcare related organizations.
They also provide continuing education for registered nurses and allied health professionals.
“If I may add to what the Guam Nurses Association does. We provide scholarships to UOG junior and senior student nurses and also for nurses who are in graduate, who are taking their nurse practitioner classes or higher level of nursing,” says Almonte.
The community is invited to attend GNA’s Health and Fitness Day on Saturday May 14 at the Ypao Beach Park Ampitheater where there will be presentations and fitness activities such as yoga, tai chi, mixed fit and zumba. The donation fee is $10.
“It’s really–nurses–we are there. We play a very integral role as part of the healthcare team. We’re always there at your bedside or at home for giving home healthcare, or even at schools. I do encourage everyone. If you know a nurse, your family member’s a nurse, please give them some appreciation because as nurses, we’re human too,” says Grino
The proclamation signing for nurses month will be held at 3:30 pm this Friday at the Governor’s office.
