Guam – The Guam Regional Transit Authority has released the following report highlighting its accomplishments in 2012 and its goals for 2013.
MAJOR PROJECTS (2012-2013)
Project No. 1- Bus Procurement (Summary)
GRTA received federal funding (ARRA and 5309) from the Federal Transit Administration, USDOT in the amount of $1.5 Million for the procurement of eight (8) para transit buses and four (4) fixed route buses.
Status- The bus technical specifications were completed by Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) in 2012. The specs were recently reviewed by the Attorney General Office (AGO). GRTA is working with both parties to clean up the specs and we anticipate going to procurement in late 2013;
Project No. 2- IFB for long term transit contract
GRTA completed the IFB packet in 2012 and transmitted it to the AGO to begin the legal review. The Scope of Work portion of that IFB is being cleaned up to include other required provisions. GRTA is working closely with the AGO to review this packet and eventually go out to bid in mid-2013;
Project No. 3- VTCLI (One Call-Once Click Center) Grant
GRTA received FTA approval in late 2012 for this grant in the amount of $1.3Million. $1.Million of this grant will go towards the construction of a new DISID Resource Center. The remaining $300,000 is allocated for the creation of a One Call-Once Click Center.
Status- GRTA expects to work with DISID on this project during 2013
Project No. 4- Revised/Expanded Transit Routes and Schedules
GRTA expects to implement a new, expanded transit routes and schedules in early 2013 that will provide services to areas of Guam not previously serviced. A complete copy of the proposed new transit schedule and routes is available online at www.grta.guam.gov
GRTA has scheduled three (3) public hearings in late January to present to the public the proposed schedule:
Central Public Hearing- at GRTA Conf. Room, January 24, 2013 @ 4:30 p.m.
Northern Public Hearing- at Dededo Community Center, Jan. 28, 2013 @ 4:30 p.m.
Southern Public Hearing- at Inarajan Community Center, Jan. 25, 2013 @ 4:30 p.m.
A Special Board Meeting will be held on January 31, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. to adopt and approve the new schedules.
Effective Date of New Transit Routes & Schedules: March 01, 2013
Project No. 5- Transit Ridership Reports
For the period January – December 2012 a total of 125,030 rides were provided under FIXED ROUTES. A total of 37,420 rides under the PARA-TRANSIT were provided under the same 12-month period.
