Guam Runners Finish Fire Road Race

Guam – The Pacific Islands Club Guam hosted six Guam runners at the Fujiyoshida Fire Festival Road Race on August 20, 2011. Marie Benito, Heidi Ballendorf, Toby (Napu) Castro, Rico Flores, Bill “Shep” DeBenedictis and Yuki Kobayashi earned a free trip and entry to the Japan event courtesy of the Pacific Islands Club Guam based on their result at last year’s Pacific Islands Club International Road Race.

Since 1995 the PIC International Road Races have enjoyed a sister-race relationship with the Fujiyoshia Fire Festival Road Race. Taking place in the city of Fujiyoshida in Japan every August, the top male and female resident finishers of each of the PIC Road Race events (5K, 10K and Half Marathon) are invited to
participate in the Fujiyoshida Fire Festival Road Race. In return the top male and female finishers of the Fujiyoshida Race are invited to compete in the PIC Road Races.

The results are:

Shepherd DeBenidictis- 0:43:47, 10K Male 46-55, 30/301 runners

Rico Flores- 1:31:13, Half-Marathon 16-35, 52/487 runners

Toby Castro- 0:37:58, 10K Male 16-35, 36/277 runners

Yuki Kobayashi- 0:45:27, 10K Female 16-35, 9/177 runners

Marie Benito- 0:43:26, 10K Female 36-49, 4/138 runners

Heidi Ballendorf- 0:25:00, 5K Female 36-49, 6/63 runners

The Pacific Islands Club Guam will host the 20th annual PIC International Road Races on Sunday, November 13, 2011. Runners from all over the Asia-Pacific Region will compete in the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon with go times at 5:40am, 5:30am and 5:00am respectively.
