Guam – The Joint Information Center reports Guam will be placed in Condition of Readiness 3 by 7 p.m. tonight in anticipation of a storm headed our way.
A tropical storm watch has been activated for Guam and Rota, just in time for the weekend, so residents are reminded to stay vigilant as we ride this one out.
The tropical depression is located 115 miles west of Chuuk and 545 miles southeast of Guam with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.
The National Weather Service anticipates the storm to track south of Guam by Saturday afternoon, with damaging winds of 39 mph or more possibly within the next 24 hours.
The tropical depression will likely turn into a tropical storm by tonight. A high surf advisory has been activated until 6 a.m. Monday with a high risk of rip currents expected through late Sunday night. Just how close the storm will get to Guam is still not clear so residents are urged to take basic precautionary actions now.
