Guam – The Guam Under-13 Boys’ National Team left this morning (Friday) for Beijing, China to participate in the 2011 AFC Under-13 Boys’ Festival of Football.

The team – who will be facing off against the likes of China, DPR Korea, Korea Republic, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Macau, Hong Kong and Mongolia – plays its first match on Easter Sunday.

The festival will take place in the China National Football Training Center and will consist of two match formats: Format (1) one 30-minute period and Format (2) two 30-minute halves.

The Guam delegation is comprised of 22 players, two coaches, a manager and a doctor.

Two local coaches – Rob DeGuzman and Elias Merfalen – are already in China as a part of the AFC “C” License coaching course. The pair left last Thursday and can earn their “C” license if they pass the two-week course. If successful, they will join the 11 current coaches in the Guam National Team program.
