Guam – It might’ve been raining, but that didn’t stop hundreds of residents and tourists from kicking off Guam’s 74th Liberation Festivities last night.
Governor Eddie Calvo and First Lady Christine Calvo were joined by Archbishop Michael Byrnes, 74th Liberation Queen Kamarin Nelson, the Phoenix Stage Band and the island community for the opening ceremony held at Paseo.
First Lady Christine Calvo and Honorary Chairperson of Liberation Festivities opened the ceremony stating that with this traditional annual celebration, the community remembers the enduring strength of the people of Guam.
The first lady also surprised everyone by singing “You light up my life,” a song she sang back when she was 15 years old on the Paseo grounds.
