A handgun was found in the restroom of the Guam International Airport Authority this afternoon.

Guam International Airport Authority spokeswoman Rolenda Faasuamalie confirmed that airport police responded to a report of a handgun left in the restroom located in the concourse area of the airport which is beyond the TSA checkpoints.

The gun was immediately recovered and secured.

While at this time it is unclear how the gun got there, Faasuamalie says that regulatory agencies with deputized officers including the TSA and Guam Customs and Quarantine were informed of the find.

She added that they are “obviously concerned and that’s why regulatory agencies were advised and we will be reviewing policies and procedures” related to the incident.

The discovery of the gun did not hamper airport operations as Faasuamalie reported no interruptions.

She says the case is under investigation and no further comment can be provided.
