Guam- 8 more businesses and 3 schools have pledged their support in promoting the Chamorro culture.

The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) hosted the 6th Hafa Adai Pledge signing ceremony at its Tumon office Thursday morning. Representatives from Shooting Star productions, Pacific Fastfood Associates LLC- Burger King Guam, Element Consulting, Guam’s Own, G3 Internet Cafe, Marianas Media & California Pizza Kitchen spoke about how they will use the Chamorro language and culture in their workplaces.

With students now involved from Southern High School, the GCC Tourism Academy at John F. Kennedy High and Notre Dame High School Inc, GVB officials say they are proud the pledges continue to grow. Southern High’s Tourism and Hospitality Society President Mark Rebamontan says his classmates are excited to promote the Hafa Adai Spirit in their school and plan to ask their principal to use island wear on Fridays.

“By doing that, we’re doing pep rallies, we’ll say ‘Hafa Adai’. Every time we go into class and see our teachers we’ll say ‘Hafa Adai’ too” said Rebamontan. “We’re also thinking about bringing up island wear during Fridays during dress downs, instead of using our uniforms, because most kids love to dress down instead of using their uniforms.”

Thursday’s signing ceremony was the largest to date. Since July, over 30 businesses and establishments have pledged support for this component of the Guam Branding Initiative.
