GVB Celebrates Second Best April in Guam’s Tourism History

GVB General Manager Nate Denight attributes the arrival numbers to the new flight services and GVB’s signature events.

Guam – The Guam Visitors Bureau is also celebrating another record breaking month.

According to a release, last month was the second best April in Guam’s tourism history. Guam welcomed about 105-thousand visitors in April 2016, a 9.6% growth over last year. GVB General Manager Nate Denight says signature events held last month helped boost visitor arrivals including the Guam International Marathon and the 2016 APL Smokin’ Wheels Weekend. Denight explains that Korea arrivals continue to grow with an increase of 36.2% when compared to last year April. Visitor arrivals from the Philippines also increased by 35.8% thanks to flights from United Airlines, Philippine Airlines and the recently launched flight service from Cebu Pacific Air to Guam. However, Japan arrivals declined by 5.9%.

Denight explains, “April is usually one of our slower months so we made a real focus to push these signature events. May and June are also slow periods. We have FESTPAC and the PATA summit so putting these signature events and MICE events are definitely helping our arrival numbers.”

Denight says they’ll continue to work with travel agents and others in the tourism industry to help support the Japan market’s growth as we lead into summer.
