The Guam Visitors Bureau may have its planned $500 tourist debit cards ready for distribution by September of this year.

GVB vice president Gerry Perez said they have finally found a financial institution that meets their requirements, although he did not name the company.

“The good news is they can do it. But it will take about 45 to 60 days before they can make delivery. By this time, it will be around September … which is probably about the right time anyway for us to be able to use this incentive program if we decide to proceed,” Perez said during GVB’s board meeting Tuesday afternoon.

GVB is initially looking at 2500 to 5000 cards based on two and a half million dollars proposed for the program.

The debit card plan was proposed to serve as an incentive for more tourists to visit Guam and spend money on local businesses.
