Guam has welcomed over 101,000 visitors in the year of 2015, a slight decrease when compared to June 2014. However, the year-to-date arrivals are still up.
Guam Visitors Bureau is known to host signature events like the Guam Live International Music Festival and the Guam Micronesia Island Fair. It’s those two events that GVB says have further proved an increase to Guam visitor arrivals.
The day before Guam Live reported a 27.5% increase in arrivals, while the day before GMIF documented growth by nearly 35%, compared to those same calendar days of last year.
GVB spokesman, Josh Tyquiengco, says that their efforts are working to draw visitors to the island and offer something different for visitors to enjoy. Tyquiengco states that there are times when GVB will strategically place events in low peak seasons so that island visitors can participate in the signature events.
Guam’s second largest market of korea continues to increase compared to 2014. Other visitor markets also documented growth and diversification as gvb stated that the people’s republic of china increased close to 35%, while arrivals from the philippines grew to nearly 20%. The Guam Visitors Bureau says they see a rise in numbers not all because of the benefits of promoting the island, but also because of the community involvement.
Tyquiengco states, “If it weren’t for the community and our locals we wouldn’t be able to showcase whats great about our island, the Chamorro culture, and our people. We just want to encourage the community to keep participating in all these events.”
The next signature event is the BBQ Block Party, which is slated to kick off this weekend on July 18th with anticipation of locals and visitors in attendance.
