Guam- As part of their preparation for the island’s 67th Liberation Day festivities, the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is looking for off island veterans who were part of Guam’s liberation from the Japanese occupation in World War II.
GVB Marketing Manager Pilar Laguana says they have been keeping in touch with some of Guam’s liberators through their database. However, it is getting more challenging to find them as many have died through the years. While Laguana hints at a few surprises for this year’s liberation celebration, she is asking for the public’s help to keep the liberators a part of this momentous occasion.
“What we’d like to do is do a call out to all of their friends and their family members and to the liberators themselves that if you know of any one that is a World War II liberator that’s residing in the U.S. mainland or elsewhere, we would really like to know who they are because we, at the Guam Visitors Bureau, would like to have them engaged with the many programs and events that will be taking place during liberation week” said Laguana.
She adds interested veterans who participated in Guam’s liberation can contact GVB for more information.
