GVB Manager Attends NTA Leadership Orientation

Guam -In order to prepare for her recent appointment as chairwoman of the 2011 National Tour Association (NTA) Leadership Committee China Task Force, Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) Marketing Manager Pilar Laguaña attended an NTA Orientation in Tampa, Fla., from Jan. 22-23.

All new committee chairmen appointed by the national organization for 2011 attended the meeting, which allowed leadership to formulate plans for the upcoming year.

Laguaña, who received the invitation to chair from NTA Chairman & CEO Cathy Greteman, believes the best way to increase the number of inbound Chinese travelers to the United States is to unite travel trade representatives from across the industry.

“Even though this task force is a product of NTA, the goal of increasing the number of arrivals from mainland China to each of our U.S. destinations is one shared by the U.S. Commercial Service, the U.S. Embassy, travel agents and other trade, and even our local chambers of commerce,” Laguaña said. “Increasing visitor arrivals from China will be a collaborative effort among everyone in our NTA network. I’m anxious to get started.”

Laguaña ‘s appointment comes at a time when the number of Chinese visitors to the United States jumped a record 57% in fiscal year 2010 over FY2009, according to statistics compiled by the Office of Travel & Tourism Industries, International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce.

“Laguaña was selected for this role not only because of her vast knowledge of the China outbound market, but because of her ability to feverishly work toward achieving goals she sets in regard to increasing visitor arrivals,” said GVB General Manager Gerald S.A. Perez. “GVB is behind her and, as a bureau, is anxious to learn from others on this task force about how we can improve the quality of our reputation as a destination and bridge relationships with travel trade in China.”
