It’s the first week of December, if you haven’t seen the Christmas Village in Tumon, it’s because it won’t be set up this year.
Usually every year residents and tourists enjoy Tumon a little more during the holidays with the Guam Visitors Bureau’s Christmas Village, where families would gather to see the many light displays and take holiday pictures.
However, GVB PIO Josh Tyquiengco tells PNC that GVB couldn’t secure the property across Hyatt where the Christmas Village is usually held.
Tyquiengco says, “So we only put Christmas lightings on the medians of Pale San Vitores Road. Unfortunately, there’s lot of planning and coordination involved with planning a Christmas Village and lighting up Tumon. Things didn’t happen the way it thought it would. We’re dealing with that and moving forward, we’ll celebrate Christmas in other ways.”
In the meantime, he says there are other places where Christmas is celebrated in Tumon such as Hilton’s holiday train and Hyatt’s gingerbread house. Moving forward, Tyquiengco says there are plans to bring back the Christmas Village next year.
