GW Geckos’s get the “W” on Sanchez Shark’s Homecoming Night

IIAAG HS Football on Friday Night over at the Okkodo H.S. Football Field. The GW Gecko’s defeated the Simon Sanchez Sharks 22-0.  Sanchez would concede the game late in the 4th Qtr due to a injured Shark and a depleted bench. 

A tight defensive 1st and 2nd Qtr as the game remained 0-0 at the half.  Gecko returning All Island receiver Aaron Jamanilla, in the 2nd Qtr, took a Shark punt and returned it for what looked like a 70 yd TD punt return.  However the TD would not count as GW would be called with a roughing the kicker penalty.

At the start of the 2nd half, the tide would turn quickly, as GW’s running back Shelby Meeks would jump start the Geckos with a 80 plus yd opening kick off return. The next Gecko touchdown would come from Jose San Miguel from two yards out. And teammate Christian Cabrera would finish it off with a another short rushing TD run. GW QB Ricky Mesias would convert on 2 PAT’s and the Geckos would score one 2pt conversion. Sanchez was led by their top running back Kamarin Toves, with 60 plus yds.

GW is now at 5-1.  And have locked up 2nd seed for the up coming playoff round.  GW still has a make up game with the Southern Dolphins.  According to GW Head Coach Ryan Rios “Depending on whether the game has a bearing on the seedings, the make up game may not be necessary.
