Guam – A former Guam Waterworks Authority employee has been arrested on charges relating to the alleged theft of at least $3,000 dollars in missing water bill payments from GWA customers.
Guam Police Spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia says 32-year old Nadine Pilar Sablan Castro of Mangilao was arrested this afternoon (Tuesday) for Theft of Property, Theft of Property Held in Trust, Official Misconduct, Hindering of Public Records and Crimes against the Community. She was booked and released.
GWA Spokeswoman Heidi Ballendorf told PNC News Monday that police were called to investigate on September 30th after customers complained that they were getting late notices for bills they claimed had been paid. Today Ballandorf declined comment except to say that the suspect was no longer a GWA employee.
Balajadia says the case remains under investigation as additional people have come forward noting discrepancies on their billings. He notes that customers who paid their power bill in cash at the Guam Waterworks Authority also could have problems with their bills.
Anyone who suspects that they were a victim in this case should call the Guam Waterworks Customer Service line at 647-7800 or contact the Guam Power Authority at 648-3000.
