GWA hires former education official as its new chief financial officer

Taling M. Taitano, the Guam Department of Education’s deputy superintendent of finance & administrative services for the last 10 years, is leaving GDOE and transferring to the Guam Waterworks Authority.

The Consolidated Commission on Utilities announced that Taitano has been selected as GWA’s new chief financial officer.

In her new position, Taitano will be responsible for financial reporting, rate setting, bond borrowing, and all other aspects of GWA’s financial accounting. She will also lead GWA’s finance department.

Taitano’s official start date will be Sept. 30, 2019, to allow for a smooth transition as she separates from GDOE. Prior
to working at GDOE, she was a Partner at Deloitte & Touche as well as the Chief Financial Officer for a major local health insurance company and banking institution.

CCU Chairman Joey Duenas said they are excited that Taitano has joined GWA for she is a well-respected financial executive with a proven history of success.

GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez congratulated Taitano and said GDOE is proud of Taitano’s selection as GWA’s new chief financial officer.

Fernandez said Taitano contributed greatly to the strengthening of GDOE’s financial situation during these last ten years.

“We wish her the best,” Fernandez said.

Taitano is a 1982 graduate of the University of Hawaii, Manoa, a Chartered Global Management Accountant, a Certified Government Financial Manager and has held the Certified Public Accountant designation since 1989.
