GWA Wastewater Worker Suffers Broken Leg After Being Struck By Alleged Drunk Driver

Guam – 29 year old man Sonny Saburo of  Yigo is in custody on drunk driving charges after his 1991 Toyota pickup struck and injured a GWA wastewater worker.

GPD Public Information Officer A.J. Balajadia says the accident happened around 8:30 Thursday evening. Saburo was northbound on Route 1 approaching the  Route 6 intersection at Adelup when his Toyota allegedly struck  the wastewater worker.

GWA’s Heidi Ballendorf told PNC News that their employee suffered a broken leg. She said he was working on a sewer back-up in front of the Adelup complex when he was struck. Ballendorf said the employee was wearing protective gear with reflector strips. She could not provide the workers name. Officer Balajadia states he was from Inarajan.

As of Friday morning the wastewater worker was in stable condtion at GMH.

Saburo was arrested on charges of DUI, DUI with .08 or more BAC with injuries, Reckless Driving, Fraudulent use of a License Plate, Operating an unregistered Vehicle on the Roadways of Guam, and Mandatory Insurance. 

He has been booked and confined.
