35-year-old Nathan Jon Ojeda from Asan was arrested for his alleged involvement in last night’s shooting incident that occurred in the village of Hagat.
The shooting resulted in the death of Anthony Herrero Mendiola II – or more commonly known as AJ.
According to the Guam Police Department – Mendiola was rushed to the Naval Hospital with CPR en route.
According to sources – Mendiola suffered two gunshot wounds to the stomach and one to the chest.
GPD announced that Mendiola passed at the Naval Hospital earlier today.
GPD also reported that through coordinated efforts detectives were able to Ojeda as a person of interest.
Sources are saying that Ojeda came to the Southern Precinct on his own and self-surrendered.
PNC reached to Hagat Mayor Kevin Susuico who said that it was a sad day for the village.
Adding that he wishes for people to keep the Mendiola family in their prayers.
Susuico adds that communities should remain vigilant – and disheartened on how this is how the village is ringing in the New Year.
Ojeda is charged with the following:
Murder, Aggravated Assault, Assault, Use of a Deadly Weapon in the Commission of a felony, Reckless Conduct, and Destroying Evidence.
As for the motive behind the shooting – that has yet to be identified at this time.
Ojeda is booked and will be confined to the Department of Corrections.
The investigation is ongoing and remains open.
