Hagibis now a typhoon; headed north of Saipan

According to NWS, Typhoon Hagibis has made that initial turn toward the west, northwest, still on track with a passage late tonight or early Tuesday morning near Anatahan Island as a strong Category-1 or Category-2 typhoon. This latest track keeps the strongest typhoon-force winds north of Saipan, but strong tropical storm-force conditions are expected across Saipan and Tinian.

Tropical Storm Hagibis continues to strengthen and is now a typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph continuing to track north of the CNMI.

At 7 a.m. Typhoon Hagibis was located 305 miles east of Saipan at 15.1N 150.3E, moving west-northwest at 16 mph.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office, there have been no changes to typhoon/tropical storm watches and warnings since yesterday evening, but NWS has issued a flash flood watch for Rota, Tinian and Saipan as heavy rain is expected with frequent, locally heavy downpours through Tuesday afternoon, with 5 to 8 inches of rain at Tinian and Saipan and 4 to 6 inches of rain at Rota are possible.
