A long-time hairstylist from Guam took home the silver in the 2015 Asian Hair Designer Festival in Korea.
Guam – Beverly Jesus from Couture Hair Boutique and Spa decided to join the competition after two judges from Guam extended the invitation to the top local salons. Jesus entered the Color and Style competition where she fixed her model’s hair in an up-do and dyed the model’s hair in mermaid tones. Out of almost 500 participants in various categories, Jesus took second place. She says out of 14 years of doing hair, this is her first time competing and is glad to put Guam on the map.
Jesus sends this advice to those aspiring hair stylists. “A couple of my son’s friends who are in high school are already cutting hair in their garage. It’s a great career. Even if it’s part time, just to showcase the talent and skill you have. It’s great. Just never give up on what your heart wants. If you got that hidden talent, show it off. It’s not even considered work. If it’s something you really have a passion to do, see the smiles on their faces when they leave your salon, it’s very meaningful. Doing it for the past 14 years has been an awesome experience.”
Jesus thanks the owners of Couture Hair Boutique and Spa Dionne and Christina for the opportunity. If you want to book an appointment with Jesus and all the other lovely people at Couture, just give them a call at 647-8772.
