Hattori-Uchima Named Dean of UOG School of Nursing and Health Sciences

Guam –  Dr. Margaret Hattori-Uchima has been named Dean of the University of Guam School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Dr. Hattori-Uchima has been a faculty member at UOG since August 2001 and has held key roles as chairperson of the Nursing Curriculum Committee and the Nursing Program Evaluation Committee. Dr. Hattori-Uchima served as Division Chairperson since the 2010-2011 Academic Year. She has been a Registered Nurse for 27 years, and an educator for over 15 years.

“Dean Hattori-Uchima brings tremendous value to this position as one who is highly engaged with students, faculty, and the broader community,” said Dr. Anita Borja Enriquez. “Through her leadership, we look forward to elevated efforts to effectuate student success and the development of the intellectual capital in nursing and health sciences for Guam and our surrounding region.”

Dr. Hattori-Uchima’s leadership and service extend beyond the University setting. She served as the Vice Chairperson of the Guam Board of Nurse Examiners for eight years and is the current Chair of the Guam Homeless Coalition. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. Prior to working for the University of Guam, Dr. Hattori-Uchima held various supervisory and management positions for home care agencies in San Diego for 10 years before relocating to Guam in 2000.

Dr. Hattori-Uchima received her Associate of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Hawaii. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoneix and her Ph.D. in Nursing from Villanova University.
