Healthcare update for Typhoon Mangkhut

Guam – As Typhoon Mangkhut makes its way towards the Marianas, PNC would like to advise the community to pay attention to the following healthcare advisories.

Guam Memorial Hospital Authority
Guam Memorial Hospital Authority will be prepared to receive pregnant mothers at 7 p.m.

GMHA will provide storm shelter for pregnant mothers who are at least thirty-eight (38) weeks pregnant and all high-risk pregnant mothers who are six (6) months or more in their pregnancy.

Mothers are asked to please check with their healthcare providers for guidance if they are unsure if they have a high-risk pregnancy.  Please check in at the Patient Registration Dept. on the 1stfloor.

Expectant mothers will remain at the hospital for the duration of the storm until it is determined safe for them to return to their homes.

All expectant mothers are asked to enjoy a complete meal before they check into the hospital.  Sleepers, pillows and blankets will be provided to the pregnant mothers.  All pregnant mothers who need to come to GMH are asked to bring the following for their comfort and convenience:

  1. ID and insurance cards
  2. Drinking water & Snacks that do not need refrigeration or heating
  3. Any needed medications
  4. Personal toiletries (soap, toothbrush, lotions, etc.)
  5. Change of clothing
  6. Entertainment i.e. games, cards, movies, headphones, books, etc. to help pass time
  7. For hospital safety, please follow these RESTRICTIONS:
    1. No personal pillows and blankets
    2. No escorts, support persons, children or pets will be allowed to accompany the pregnant mothers.
    3. No smoking, weapons and illegal drugs are permitted.

Also, outpatient elective surgeries, regular visiting hours and family viewings are suspended upon the declaration of COR 2 and will resume upon the declaration of COR 4.  All essential GMH staff are asked to check in with their hospital supervisors.  For more information, please contact the GMHA Administrator/CEO PeterJohn Camacho at 647-2555.

PUBLIC HEALTH, DIVISION OF SENIOR CITIZENS 
The Department of Public Health and Social Services, Division of Senior Citizens, continued Home-Delivered Meals today, along with three days of dry goods for Monday (Sept. 10), Tuesday (Sept. 11), & Wednesday (Sept. 12).

NAVAL HOSPITAL GUAM 
At Condition of Readiness 2, at 7 p.m. today, pregnant women being seen at U.S. Naval Hospital Guam who are 38 weeks or more, or are 36 weeks of high-risk (with complications) will be called by the hospital staff if they wish to ride out the storm at USNH Guam.

Once in COR2, outpatient visits will be cancelled. At Condition of Readiness 1 outpatient services will be closed, but the emergency department will remain open.

Guam Regional Medical Center

Guam Regional Medical City will suspend all visiting hours once the island is placed in Condition of Readiness 2 (COR 2). All admitted patients may have one (1) patient watcher per patient. Patient watchers must obtain an approved emergency patient watcher permit from Customer Relations in the Main Lobby. All other visitors shall be asked to leave the hospital.

All patient appointments made with GRMC’s Specialty Clinics and Radiology Department (CT Scan, MRI, Mammography, X-ray) for Monday, September 10th and Tuesday, September 11th have been cancelled. All non-emergency and elective surgeries scheduled for Monday, September 10th and Tuesday,  September 11th have also been cancelled. Rescheduling of all appointments will take place once Guam has been declared in COR 4.  Café City in the Main Lobby will close at the announcement of COR 2.
