Highsmith no longer with Attorney General’s Office

David J. Highsmith, who had been involved in an altercation with lawyer Gary “Frank” Gumataotao, is no longer with the Office of the Attorney General.

Highsmith worked at the OAG as an Assistant Attorney General.

The OAG confirmed that Highsmith is no longer their employee effective Oct. 2, 2019. OAG spokeswoman Carlina Charfauros said there will be no further comment on the matter as this was a personnel issue.

Any inquiries related to the hiring of an independent prosecutor for the matter must be directed to the Office of the Governor.

Earlier, OAG said it holds employees to a high standard of conduct while they are acting on behalf of the office.

“We have a responsibility as an employer, and will conduct an administrative review of the incident. We are also aware of our responsibility to ensure all criminal complaints are handled appropriately. Any criminal complaint related to this incident will be referred to an independent attorney,” the OAG said.

Attorney General Leevin Taitano Camacho also sent a letter to Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, requesting that she engage the services of a special prosecutor to review the police report related to the incident involving Assistant Attorney General David Highsmith.
