TipOFF Starts This Saturday


Guam – Tamuning Gym will be filled with fast pace basketball action beginning Saturday in the opening games for the Holiday TipOFF Tournament. The Office of the Mayor for Tamuning-Tumon-Harmon together with Tamuning Gym Community Basketball and ACAS a non-profit organization is hosting the event that runs through the 30th. GTA is providing the prizes for the division MVP’s, best offensive and best defensive players.

For those who want to see competitive games that will knock the wind out of you the 25U men’s varsity division will provide a daily fix of highlights. Division teams will feature the Inarajan Hawks, Tamuning Typhoons, Team ExpendaBULLS and DLX All Stars. “This is a competitive division that will showcase Guam’s top baller’s vying for a championship title to end the year 2010 feeling complete,” stated tournament coordinator Elsa Ulloa.

Continuing the support of youth basketball the 14U JV coed division will provide a platform for participating club teams to get their basketball legs back in time for the upcoming IIAAG and GDOE leagues that take place next month. Teams participating are the MVP Junior Stars, Tamuning Typhoons, Barrigada Crusaders and the Warriors Club.

In true tournament format teams participating will play in a two round robin followed with a seeded double elimination format. Players will face playing six to eight games in a 10 day period that will surely test their stamina and physical conditioning as well as their mental strength.
